The Napranum PaL Group (NPG) is a not for profit company governed by a board of Indigenous Australians and dedicated early childhood advocates. It was established in 2004 to protect the intellectual property of the early learning program known as PaL (Parents and Learning). The PaL program was developed with parents in the Aboriginal community of Napranum on Cape York Peninsula to help them ‘help their kids get ready for school’.
Since establishment, NPG has supported the implementation of PaL programs in North Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia, helping parents help their children in early learning.

The Napranum PaL Group is a small and dedicated team of early childhood professionals with extensive experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education. 

The team has been working together as either NPG board members or NPG employees for over 15 years. At the request of community parents, NPG was formed to ‘help parents help their kids get ready for school’. 

The NPG team has honoured this vision across the years and remains focussed on improving educational outcomes for families and children through practical, fun and sustainable programs.

our program

PaL is a home-based parent engagement program.
It supports parents to participate in their young child’s early literacy learning by providing resources and training delivered to family homes. There are two PaL Programs: ReadnPlay for children aged 2 – 3 yrs and BookStart for children 3 ½ – 5 ½ yrs.

PaL‘s system of learning is adaptable to meet individual community needs; getting the right ‘fit’ for each community and cultural context is crucial to its success. Community participation in the production and compilation of resources is also a key element to the success of the program.

The PaL curriculum strongly connects with the Early Years Learning framework, is developmentally sequenced, and comprises Indigenous and non- Indigenous content.

Tracking children’s progress through data collection and analysis as well as continuous review of the curriculum ensures program effectiveness, relevance and success.
